What Does HVAC Stand For

What does HVAC stand for?

Most of us would have seen the abbreviation HVAC before and linked it to some commercial application. But what does HVAC stand for? Well, it simply stands for heating, venting, and air conditioning. HVAC stands for an umbrella term that encompasses most if not all environmental comfort control. Within these broad categories there are many sub categories such as split systems and portable ACUs.

Heating

Heating is one of the most important requirements for us as people. It is part of the minimum requirement for us to survive. In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, it is part of the basic physiological needs. Meaning we cannot live without it. Heating can be from full central heating systems to portable electric fan heaters. On building sites and warehouses, where it can be hard to keep the environment warm, space heaters are crucial.

Venting

Ventilation is one way to promote a steady airflow in a building. It is one of the most important ways any HVAC system efficiently regulates temperature and removes harmful pollutants from the air. It also can help combat airborne viruses and lower risk of respiratory diseases.

Air Conditioning

To regulate a more comfortable working environment, air conditioning units can be portable or affixed to the building. A split system ACU is a HVAC solution that has all the heat creating components outside and pushes cooled air into the building. Air Conditioning can make hot days more temperate and even increase productivity.

BTU

The British thermal unit (BTU) is a unit of energy used in the HVAC industry. It is specifically used in regards to heat. The British thermal unit is slightly over 1kJ of energy and refers to the amount of energy required to raise 1lb of water by one degree of Fahrenheit.

What would you stand to gain from implementing HVAC systems?
